| THE BOYS ARE BACK |

On 16 December 2009 at 17H30 a
weary but enthused South African FIFA™ national team touched down at O R Tambo
airport in Johannesburg. The trip had proved to be
incredibly taxing, not only for the vast distances that the South African team
had to travel to Taebaeck City in South Korea, but also for the high level of
competition that the players experienced for the first time in their
lives. This is the first time that
Ruben de Freitas and Xola Magwaza had ever officially represented
South Africa in an international eSports event. The IeSF Challenge proved to
be the high point of competitive gaming as all the top players from twenty
nations gathered to do battle. Upon the South African’s
arrival at the 0² Resort at
Taebaeck City, the German team, consisting of the Schellhase twins immediately
befriended our players. Both brothers play for the much famed SK team and also
exhibited the high degree of professionalism and courtesy that made SK so
popular at the 2008 African Continental
Championships. Even though the South African
team did not manage to get out of the group stages, both Ruben and Xola
acquitted themselves well demonstrating to all the best of South African
sportsmanship and both were indeed a credit to the country. Both player’s have both
indicated to the MSSA that for South Africans to be more competitive, more
championships are required and both players have requested the MSSA to
concentrate more on the games offered at the IeSF’s
competitions. Issued by: Mind Sports South Africa Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is an affiliate of the South African Confederation of Sport and Olympic Committee.
